"Hey, Emma, would you like to go to the lake?" My best friend, Ron Weasley asks. I sigh, not the person who I wanted it to be, but he was still my best friend. I turn off my iPod (I wasn't really listening to it anyways) and nod.
"Sure, the lake is always pretty this time of year." I reply, getting up. It was the fall of my fifth year at Hogwarts, and it seemed like a lot had changed. Seamus seemed to have changed the most it seemed . His gorgeous brown eyes seemed to shine brighter every time I saw him, making my heart feel like it slowed to a stop. And, his hair was the same color as always, sandy brown.
Ron smiles, "Y-yeah." He stutters. He was looking at someone. I looked up to see Ron's girlfriend, Lavender Brown. Truth was, I thought that Lavender Brown was an idiot. Dim-witted. Stupid, whatever word that you would like to use. Too bad Ron couldn't see how annoying she was. Most girls hated her, and how silly she sounded, always giggling all the time.
"Hey, Ronnie." Lavender says, glaring at me for a second, then smiling sweetly at Ron. Ugh, what kind of a nickname was Ronnie? How annoying could this girl get? Like I said, most girls hate her.
"So, would you maybe like to go for a stroll?" Lavender asks Ron.
"Sorry, Lav, Emma and I are going to hang out at the Black Lake." Ron says, and was about to leave with me, but Lavender stopped him. What did she want?!
She gave me the meanest, not to most mention jealous, glare ever. Why would she be jealous of me? I liked Seamus, not Ron. Lavender turns to Ron, "Wait, can I come? I've been wanting to go with you for a while." Yeah, with Ron. Not me. Can't she just leave him alone for like, one second?
Why why why?! Luckily Ron seemed tired of her too, "I'm sorry. we can go to the Black Lake with you tomorrow night. That way we can be alone." Alone...with her. Sounded like suicide.
Satisfied with her 'Ronnie's answer, Lavender skips away. "Okay! Sounds lovely!"
Once she was gone, I let out a long sigh. "How can you even put up with her is a mystery, even to me, your very best friend."
Ron laughs, and we are finally able to escape the Gryffindor Common Room.
"So, have you seen Seamus today?" I ask Ron, hoping that he wouldn't notice that I was blushing.
I was too late. Ron looks at me suspiciously.
"You like Seamus, don't you? I wonder how I never realized it until now. " Ron comments, making me blush.
"Maybe, maybe not." I reply coolly.
"Oh, I think you do." Ron says, raising his eyebrow suspiciously.
"And, I think you like Lavender."
"Really?" Ron sighs, "I do like her, but all she ever wants to do is snog me. "
"Okay. One um, if all Lavender, or Lav, as you call wants to do is snog you, then why are you with her. Two, she's too silly, and girly for my taste. And, three, Hermione hates you for going out with her. Haven't you ever noticed?" I say, scowling as I ran my fingers on the cold stone walls to avoid looking at him. It just came out of my mouth, without having to even blink.
Ron was silent, "You're right, Emma." He says awkwardly. We continued to the Black Lake, the silence looming over us like a bad dream as we walked.
~*~ Black Lake
The moon shone high above the lake, creating a dark ghost over the lake. The sky was an interesting mix between darkness, and color. Evening and night were fighting for the sky, and we already knew who'd win.
I watched as the lamps came on, like fire glowing. Sleep was calling me. Hogwarts, with a nice warm bed. But, I wasn't ready to leave yet. I wanted to stay out, and enjoy the cool crisp world of night.
I sigh, a calm and peaceful essence seeping over me.
"It's getting late, isn't it?" Ron asks, yawning. Ron. I had almost forgotten that he even existed.
"Yeah." I agree, laying my head on the blanket spread beneath us.
"I'm going to go head back in. Are you coming with me? Or stay outside a little bit longer?" Ron asks, standing up, stretching.
"Stay here, it's so pretty." I say, staring out at the lake.
"Don't stay out too late, and don't let Mr. Filch, or Ms. Norris catch you on the way in!" Ron calls, as he walks to the castle, twigs snapping carelessly as he went.
I wrap the blanket around me like a sleeping bag as the air got cooler. I felt like I had been out here for hours, probably have. A voice in my head says. I should go and head back to Hogwarts now.
Too sleepy. Another voice says. It's Friday anyway, no classes tomorrow. Besides, I can sneak in the early morning.
My senses became duller, until I sleep took me.

"Emma." Seamus calls, smiling a 100 megawatt smile once he saw me. It was about midnight, and the Gryffindor Common Room was empty, which was kind of weird. There usually was about at least a few people still up, doing whatever. At least Seamus and I were alone.
"Hey." I say, my face heating up as I sat next to Seamus on the couch. "What's up?"
"I , um, wanna talk to you..." Seamus admits, blushing himself. Why was he blushing? I was only his best friend, nothing more, right?
"Yeah, what is it, Seamus ?"
"I really like you, Emma. Like, more than a friend." Seamus says, looking at the couch.
"Yeah, obviously 'cuz I'm your best friend." I say, playing stupid. Why was I always so shy?! Couldn't I just be outgoing for one second?
"Listen." Seamus tries again, putting his lips against mine. It seemed like all my dreams that I ever had were coming true in that moment. Short, sweet, and to the point. Seamus broke the kiss, looking me in the eyes, "Do you like me back too?"
"I, uh, yes." I admitted, looking at Seamus, my face as red as ever.
"Good." Seamus replies, and kisses me again. This time, I wasn't too shocked to kiss Seamus back.

"What're you doing out here this late, Em? Shouldn't you be out in the castle, sleeping. With your goody goody friends? " A snotty voice I could recognize anywhere asks. My heart sinks as I realized that it was a dream. None if it had really happened. Seamus, the kiss, nothing. It had really been too good to be true. I mean, Seamus and I were best friends, nothing more. I had to get the idea that he maybe liked me more than a best friend.
"Hello? Earth to Em!" Draco says snapping his fingers in my face and, smirking as he sat down next to me.
"Stop it, Malfoy. Or, should I say ferret boy." I tease, giving Draco my harshest stare.
"Don't call me that!" Draco yells, then sighs, "Sorry, Em." He says, looking defeated.
I stared at him, confusion clouding my mind, "Umm....One, don't call me Em. Two, why'd you apologize? And, three um. I haven't thought that far."
Draco smiles at me, "Okay, fine, Emma. And, I wanna talk to you about something."
I get up, "Too bad, Draco. I don't wanna talk to you." Draco gets up.
"Too bad. You aren't going anywhere until I do so." Draco mutters, his arms around my waist. I could feel his breath upon my cheek. He was too close for comfort.
"Get away from me!" I cry, trying to move my arm to smack him, but Draco was faster, and grabbed onto my arm before I could do so.
"I'm not going to hurt you, Emma." Draco hissed through clenched teeth.
I was starting to freak out now, and my eyes felt wet, "Could've fooled me." I muter, trying to shake my arm from his grasp.
"I love you." Draco says quietly.
"You what?! " I screech. Oh, heck no! How could this happen to me?!
"You heard me. I love you." Draco repeats, as if I were slow.
"I heard you the first time, thanks."
"And?" Draco says, smirking at me, his arms finding their way around my waist again.
"I don't love you back!"
"Too bad. You need to stop lying to yourself. I know you like me." Draco smirks.
"I'm not lying!" I yell, frustrated, "Now get away from me!"
"Don't be like that I-" Draco got cut off. He was staring at something behind me, fear hidden beneath his eyes.
I followed his gaze only to see...Seamus Finnegan.
"Emma doesn't deserve to be treated like that." Seamus says, stepping forward. "Let her go, and leave."
"Make me." Draco replies coolly.
Seamus sighs, taking out his wand. "I'm not afraid to hex you, ferret."
The anger in Draco's eyes was noticeable everywhere. Draco takes out his wand, letting go of me for a split second to reach for his wand.
I was fast, but not fast enough to escape his grasp. Draco smirks, glancing at me quickly before his attention went back to Seamus.
"Verdimillius!" Seamus yelled.
The hex hit Draco straight in the face, knocking him out into the ground.
I gasped, and Seamus grabbed me quickly.
"Be careful." He warned, and held me gently, walking towards Hogwarts.
"I-I wanted to stay out a bit longer." I admitted.
"It's about midnight, we should head back. But, I think we need a midnight stroll anyways. To help clear our heads."
I nodded, "That sounds good, but what about Draco?"
Seamus sighed, "What about him? He was being a jerk. "
I smiled, "Yeah, but it feels wrong to just leave him there."
"He hexed Ron, and just left him there. Let's just say it's the perfect revenge."
Seamus and I walked on in silence. As long as I was with him, I felt safe. He was my best friend. Nothing more, a voice in my head added.
Seamus suddenly stopped, "Hey, what's wrong?"
"Nothing." I lie, looking at the lake beside me.
Seamus gives me a concerned look, "I've been your best friend since first year. I know when something is wrong Emma."
"That's the problem! We've only just been best friends! It's hurts me because-"I stopped, covering my mouth with my hand. Why did I just do that? Stupid stupid!
Seamus smiles, "I think I know where this is heading. You like me."
I just stare at him, unable to speak.
Seamus laughs, "No, that's a good thing because, I like you back." He says, and the next thing I know, his mouth was on mine, and his hands around my waist.
It was just like in my dream, but better. Once we pulled away, we were both blushing madly.
"Will you Emma, be not my best friend, but my girlfriend?" Seamus asks, a goofy grin on his face.
"Yes!" And, without thinking my lips met with his once more.
My dreams had finally come true.
